An assessment is offered of the recent debate on informationin the philosophy of biology, and an analysis is provided ofthe notion of information as applied in scientific practicein molecular genetics. In particular, this paper deals withthe dependence of basic generalizations of molecular biology,above all the central dogma, on the so-calledinformational talk (Maynard Smith [2000a]). Itis argued that talk of information in the central dogmacan be reduced to causal claims. In that respect, the primaryaim of the paper is to consider a solution to the major difficultyof the causal interpretation of genetic information: how todistinguish the privileged causal role assigned to nucleic acids,DNA in particular, in the processes of replication and proteinproduction. A close reading is proposed of Francis H. C. Crick'sOn Protein Synthesis (1958) and related works, to which we owethe first explicit definition of information within the scientificpractice of molecular biology.

The thesis focuses on the reconstruction of cultures of curriculum,their qualities of cultural reflection,generativity,and the renewal of their natures and logics,in order to serve for the practice of quality education.By taking the cultures of curriculum of School of English for International Business (SEIB) in Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS) as an example,the thesis adopts qualitative approach,on the one hand,to obtain the current situation of cultures of curriculum by exploring the contemporary value orientation of curriculum in Business English (BE) major;on the other hand,to be aware of teachers’ and students’understandings of cultures of curriculum for comparison by a survey for students and in-depth interviews for both of the two parts.Consequently,problems are identified and solved through seeking the reconstruction of cultures of curriculum which aims at pursuing cultures of curriculum as they ought to be. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to explore comprehension monitoring and perceived use of reading strategies as factors of reading comprehension. Participants were elementary school students from the fifth to the eighth grade. Error correction and text sensitivity tasks from the Metacomprehension test (Pazzaglia, De Beni, &; Cristante, 1994). and the cloze-task were used as measures of comprehension monitoring during reading. A Strategic reading questionnaire (Koli?-Vehovec &; Baj?anski, 2001b) was applied as a measure of perceived use of strategies during reading. Girls had better results than boys on text comprehension, all measures of comprehension monitoring, as well as on the Strategic reading questionnaire. Significant developmental improvements in comprehension monitoring occurred after the fifth grade and between the sixth and the eighth grade. A similar change was evident in reading comprehension. All measures of comprehension monitoring were significantly related to text comprehension in all age groups. However, perceived use of reading strategies was significantly related to reading comprehension only in eighth-grade students. 相似文献

Higher education in Croatia isconfronted with new trends and quality demandsmostly connected with Bologna processes.
