Gendered Talk at Work: Constructing Gender Identity Through Workplace Discourse , published in 2006 by Blackwell Publishing, is an eminent monograph in the study of sociolinguistics. This paper begins by offering a general introduction to the book, goes on to conduct a detailed chapter-by-chapter review and then ends by stressing its three merits and demerits, namely: On the one hand, this book successfully connects theory with empirical research; It has largely avoided drawing simplistic conclusions; It has wide social implications. Fiction and Repetition is and will remain a distinguished deconstructionist guide of literary criticism. However, after detailed and systematic research, I also find some shortcomings in this important academic work: Firstly, written in the metaphysical language, Fiction and Repetition can never succeed in escaping the logocentrism and binary opposition inherent in this language.Secondly, based on Saussure's argument on langue, the monograph's view of indeterminacy of literary work's meaning is theoretically correct but practically inadequate. Last but not the least, Miller's proposal on repetition also has some limitations. By taking into account both the work's merits and demerits, we can gain a more comprehensive outlook on Miller's idea of repetition as well as the deconstruction theory of literary criticism in general. 相似文献

2003年,美国黑人女作家、诺贝尔文学奖得主托妮·莫里森又一次发表了新作——《爱》。本文旨在从创伤理论的视角透视这一作品。本文首先分析了小说中留心、克里斯廷和朱妮尔的个体创伤,接着探讨了整个黑人社会内部父权制和爱的缺失这两个集体创伤。最后,本文提出,莫里森通过小说向我们暗示了疗治这些个体和集体创伤的三个方案:叙述,母性力量与爱。 相似文献
