Using phenomenological methodology, the authors explored the experiences of 11 men in a master's‐level counseling program. Participants described the challenges and advantages of being a minority in number, being in a relational environment, and having an awareness of a patriarchal system. These findings suggest the importance of counselor educator awareness of the unique barriers male students face.  相似文献

Previous research has shown that rapid-guessing behavior can degrade the validity of test scores from low-stakes proficiency tests. This study examined, using hierarchical generalized linear modeling, examinee and item characteristics for predicting rapid-guessing behavior. Several item characteristics were found significant; items with more text or those occurring later in the test were related to increased rapid guessing, while the inclusion of a graphic in a item was related to decreased rapid guessing. The sole significant examinee predictor was SAT total score. Implications of these results for measurement professionals developing low-stakes tests are discussed.  相似文献

A variety of approaches are available for meeting the educational needs of professionals currently providing services to older adults. This article focuses on the development of the Professional Development Program in Gerontology offered through Continuing Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and examines the effectiveness of this program in educating regional service providers. The discussion is based on participants’ self‐reported before‐and‐after data on their knowledge and attitudes about aging and the aged. The importance of changing employers’ attitudes about the importance of gerontology education as a qualification for service providers is also discussed.  相似文献

This paper explores student‐assisted research as an experiential component of undergraduate gerontology programs. The advantages to both students and the faculty supervisor are discussed along with ways to alleviate problems involved in this approach.
