Business professors were surveyed to determine their attitudes towards two methods of collecting students' teaching evaluations of faculty--the traditional paper-and-pencil method conducted in class and the online method conducted via the Internet. Faculty preferred the traditional paper method, mainly because they believed it would produce a higher and more accurate response than the online method. Faculty characteristics were examined to determine whether they were related to attitudes towards the online method of collecting teaching evaluations. No characteristics were found to be significantly associated with attitudes towards the online method. Suggestions for future researchers are offered. 相似文献

The study examined the sustained effects of methylphenidate on reading performance in a sample of 42 boys, aged 8 to 11, with attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Two subgroups were formed based on the presence or absence of co-occurring conduct disorders. Subjects were selected on the basis of their positive response to methylphenidate as determined in a series of original medication trials (Forness, Cantwell, Swanson, Hanna, & Youpa, 1991). For the purpose of this study, subjects were placed on their optimal dose of medication for a 6-week period and then tested on measures of oral reading and reading comprehension equivalent to those used in the original trials, retested after a week without medication (placebo), then tested again the following week after return to medication. Only the subgroup with conduct disorders responded, and this response was limited to reading comprehension improvement in only those subjects who also demonstrated improvement in oral reading on original trials. (International) R&D collaboration and SMEs: The effectiveness of targeted public R&D support schemes
This study analyses the impact and effectiveness of targeted public support for R&D investment at the firm level. We test whether the policy design aiming at incentivizing (international) collaboration and R&D in SMEs achieves input as well as output additionality. Our results show that the targeted public subsidies trigger R&D spending, especially so in internationally collaborating SMEs. We further evaluate the different impact of privately financed and publicly induced R&D investment on innovation performance. The results confirm that the publicly induced R&D is productive as it translates into marketable product innovations. While both types of R&D investments trigger significant output effects, the effect of policy-induced R&D investment on sales from market novelties is highest for international collaborators as well as for SMEs. 相似文献

Not all young children benefit from book exposure in preschool age. It is claimed that the ability to hold information in
mind (short-term memory), to ignore distraction (inhibition), and to focus attention and stay focused (sustained attention) may have a moderating effect on children’s reactions to the home literacy environment. In a group of 228 junior kindergarten
children with a native Dutch background, with a mean age of 54.29 months (SD = 2.12 months), we explored therefore the relationship
between book exposure, cognitive control and early literacy skills. Parents filled in a HLE questionnaire (book sharing frequency
and an author recognition checklist as indicator of parental leisure reading habits), and children completed several tests
in individual sessions with the researcher (a book-cover recognition test, PPVT, letter knowledge test, the subtests categories
and patterns of the SON, and cognitive control measures namely digit span of the KABC, a peg tapping task and sustained attention
of the ANT). Main findings were: (1) Children’s storybook knowledge mediated the relationship between home literacy environment
and literacy skills. (2) Both vocabulary and letter knowledge were predicted by book exposure. (3) Short-term memory predicted
vocabulary over and above book exposure. (4) None of the cognitive control mechanisms moderated the beneficial effects of

Projects in Technology Education and Fostering Learning: The Potential and Its Realization 总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
The current study aimed at examining the efficacy of technological projects as learning tools by exploring the following questions:
the extent to which projects in technology develop students as independent learners; the types of knowledge the students deal
with in working on their projects; the role of problem-solving in technological projects; and how projects integrate into
traditional schooling. The subjects were 53 high school (12th grade) students who prepared graduating projects in technology
under the supervision of nine teachers. Data were collected by observing the students in the laboratory, administrating two
questionnaires to both the students and the teachers, and analyzing 25 portfolios prepared by the students of their projects.
The findings indicate that projects in technology provide a good opportunity to engage students in challenging tasks that
enhance their learning skills. To maximize this potential, it is necessary to employ the project method from the early stages
of learning technology. It is especially important that teachers having a strong engineering orientation also acquire pedagogical
knowledge on issues such as fostering independent learning, creativity, peer learning and reflective practice in the technological

This study examined employees’ perceptions of interpersonal competence at work through the research methodology known as concept
mapping. The purpose of this study was to identify the phenomenally derived components of interpersonal competence in work
environments and employees’ underlying cognitive structures of interpersonal competence at work. Multidimensional scaling
analysis indicated that the participants conceptualized interpersonal competence in the following two dimensions: (i) work-specific
domain versus general domain and (ii) unilateral domain versus bilateral domain. In addition, hierarchical clustering on the
MDS coordinates produced six clusters: Caring & Considerate, Sociable & Out-going, Kind & Gentle, Reliable & Leadership skills,
and Confident & Responsible. Our results were discussed with respect to future research and educational approaches to the
