Consequences of competition for global university rankings, such as changes in funding modes, have been extensively discussed in the field of higher education. However, few studies have reviewed its implications on knowledge production. This study provides a contextualised method for theorising the implications of this competition on the development of East Asian higher education, specifically teacher education. It identifies the new forms of knowledge being produced in two teacher education institutions in Hong Kong and Macau by reviewing the publications of new recruits in a five-year period. The study considers the following variables: author(s), date and form of publication, abstract, title, keywords, journal name, language, data source, research context and methods. The findings show that the dominant publication trends are towards quantitative research and multiple authors. Psychological research is the most popular area and studies of other long-term issues in teacher education are being marginalised.  相似文献

Play, as an educational concept, has entered many kindergartens in China; yet it has not become a core idea, or been prioritised in the teaching and learning process. An ongoing trans-provincial study started in 2008, using observation, interviews and document analyses. Based on findings from nine kindergartens in three provinces, this article illustrates how the concept of play is perceived and manifested in kindergartens located in three cities across China. It is suggested that there is a certain relationship between the rank and the status of play in a kindergarten, which may offer a systematic way to better understand how the concept of play is represented in Chinese kindergartens. Evidence also shows that the play concept has influenced Chinese educational ideas and pedagogy at certain levels but without changing the fundamental Chinese ideas of a play and learning relationship. Explanations for the phenomena observed, such as ranking versus forms of manifestation will be suggested.  相似文献

A Chinese and a Swedish preschool teacher education programme were examined in search for commonalities and differences of the curriculum decision-making considerations involved in the respective programme revision process. Findings include: (1) the two programmes have shifted orientations and become similar, yet there was no fundamental paradigmatic shift after the revisions; (2) the Swedish programme has been heavily influenced by political agenda and national curriculum guidelines, while the Chinese one gives considerable attention to the opinions from the preschool circle; (3) the discussion of programme revision revolved around the diverse views of quality preschool education and teacher education; and (4) a strong relationship between the institutional/organisational features identified and the programme orientations was found. The empirical data suggested teacher educators’ professional views of quality preschool education and organisational/institutional characteristics are critical to the curriculum decision-making in the specific contexts.  相似文献

This study examined the effectiveness of one province’s Kindergarten Quality Rating System in differentiating quality levels using the Chinese Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (CECERS). Results confirmed that, except for the difference between the Standard and Level-3 Kindergartens, the CECERS was successful in detecting the differences among various quality levels based on Space & Furnishing, Personal Care Routines, Curriculum Planning & Implementation, Whole-Group Instruction, Activities, Language-Reasoning, Guidance & Interactions, and Parents & Staff. The findings suggest combining the Standard and Level-3 Kindergartens to improve the efficacy and efficiency of the quality rating system. Moreover, to ensure a quality ECE for children from disadvantaged backgrounds, the findings suggest that the government must increase both the number of rural programs and the quality of local ECE programs, especially rural and private programs. Finally, practitioners are encouraged to use the CECERS as a tool for improving ECE quality and for ensuring a quality early childhood education for every child.  相似文献

In the former Portuguese colony, Macau, higher education is gaining more importance in the post-1999 era in local talent-building and regional integration to safeguard its socioeconomic sustainability. This paper is based on a recent and ‘innovative’ development in the arena of higher education in the territory, a creation of new space in mainland China for a local public university. By adopting a critical spatial perspective, we examine this idiosyncratic Macau model in three aspects: (1) What kind of power/knowledge production occurs in this new creation of space? (2) How does this new space (re)configure Macau higher education development in both local and global contexts? (3) In what ways does this emergent space re-order the relations between the state, society and school? In employing this spatial stance, we aim to open up understanding of how spatiality affects diverse possibilities in the case of Macau, in global higher education movement more broadly.  相似文献

This study investigates experienced teachers’ resistance in an era of neoliberalism in Macau. The narratives of three experienced teachers are examined under a post-structuralist framework. The findings indicate that the traditional Chinese Confucian ideology of education guides the experienced teachers’ professional practice and offers them an alternative subject position to inhabit that makes it possible for them to establish a critical distance from the prevailing norms imposed by the hegemony of neoliberalism. Such a distance allows the experienced teachers to observe, to think otherwise and consequently to live out a different teaching life and to reassemble their identity around an empowered notion of self. The study concludes that the Confucian ideology of education has contributed to the transformation of the contemporary discursive context of Macau by promising a future for education, a future with a revisioned future rather than a neoliberal incorporation of the past.  相似文献

Earth surface vibrations generated by passing vehicles, excavation equipment, footsteps, etc., attract increasing attentions in the research community due to their wide applications. In this paper, we investigate the periodic vibration source localization problem, which has recently shown significance in excavation device detection and localization for urban underground pipeline network protection. An intelligent propagation distance estimation algorithm based on a novel fundamental frequency energy distribution (FBED) feature is developed for periodic vibration signal localization. Contributions of the paper lie in three aspects: 1) a novel frequency band energy distribution (FBED) feature is developed to characterize the property of vibrations at different propagation distances; 2) an intelligent propagation distance estimation model built on the FBED feature with machine learning algorithms is proposed, where for comparisons, the support vector machine (SVM) for regression and regularized extreme learning machine (RELM) are used; 3) a localization algorithm based on the distance-of-arrival (DisOA) estimation using three piezoelectric transducer sensors is given for source position estimation. To testify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms, case studies on real collected periodic vibration signals generated by two electric hammers with different fundamental frequencies are presented in the paper. The transmission medium is the cement road and experiments on vibration signals recorded at different propagation distances are conducted.  相似文献

Modern engines are controlled by electronic control units, which operate all the engine actuators based on the signals from various sensors in the engine. Traditionally, the control parameters of the actuators are obtained through huge amount of trial-and-error experiments. However, using traditional approach to calibrate these parameters becomes more challenging with the increasing incorporation of new technologies into advanced engines. In order to reduce the number of experiments required in the calibration process of modern engines, a novel point-by-point engine calibration approach based on machine learning methods is proposed in this study. It is an iterative procedure that, for a given operating point, sequential design of experiment (DoE) strategy is utilized to measure the responses of different engine sensors corresponding to different actuator signals, and a machine learning algorithm called initial-training-free online extreme learning machine is utilized to incrementally learn the relationship between the sensors and actuators based on the measurement acquired. In each iterative cycle, meta-heuristic optimization is performed on the machine-learning-based model to search for the best parameters, which are then used as the initial parameters for generating DoE plan of the next cycle. The iteration is repeated until the optimal parameters of that operating point are found. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach, experiments on both simulation engine in commercial software and real engine in test bench have been conducted. The results show that the engine calibration can be carried out with significant fewer experiments and time by using the proposed approach.  相似文献

The promotion of creativity in young children has been included in the agenda of the educational authorities in mainland China since 2001. Since then, attempts to implement this policy have appeared in different forms. The educational bureaux take measures by publishing documents and guidelines on the subject. While some kindergartens endeavour to restructure their programmes in order to accommodate the development of creativity, most practitioners are not yet ready to embrace this idea. Based on an ethnographic study, this article argues that there are gaps amongst the government's, practitioners' and parents' views of creativity and means to foster such ability in young children. It also highlights the fact that the observed phenomenon might be explained in terms of the social hierarchy that has been thriving in Chinese culture for centuries. Finally, it suggests that a reciprocal relationship amongst the three parties is yet to be built in order to form a strong support for the development of children's creativity in this southern Chinese city.  相似文献
