Research and development at the Children's Television Workshop   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Since its establishment in 1968, the Children's Television Workshop (CTW)—as a matter of policy—has incorporated research into the process of designing and producing educational materials. The first CTW project to use this team approach wasSesame Street, the educational television series created for in-home viewing by preschoolers. Today, the scope of CTW's efforts has widened dramatically to include other media (home video, print, computer software), other learning environments (schools, community organizations, afterschool child-care settings), and other national cultures. This article introduces this issue ofETR&D, which has been authored entirely by CTW researchers, producers, and executives. It describes CTW's approach to research and development, and sets out in broad terms the opportunities and constraints imposed by the environments in which the various projects and productions function.  相似文献

Book reviews     
Anyone who engages in or follows media research knows of the work of Gavriel Salomon. His publications are some of the most frequently cited in the literature. Advance information about a new book by him prompted us to treat the book more elaborately than usual. We asked Salomon’s colleague, Dick Clark, to do a review, and Keith Mielke and Erhard Heidt to comment on the implications of the book for future research in media. — Ed  相似文献

Topological analysis of the signal flow graph associated with the hybrid system of equations for a linear active or passive electrical network for which the element admittance matrix exists and is diagonal is considered. First, the term cancellation which occurs in Mason's topological formulas is investigated. Necessary and sufficient conditions on the signal flow graph topology such that a term in the expansion of the graph determinant and cofactors either cancels out with another term in the expansion or does not cancel are established. Properties of the associated network which result in non-cancelling terms are given and the number of non-cancelling terms is determined. Second, new signal flow graph topological formulas for the graph determinant and cofactors are proven. These formulas are such that no term cancellation occurs and are readily adaptable to computer implementation. In addition, the number of terms in these formulas is independent of the network tree used to formulate the signal flow graph. Examples are given to illustrate the new formulas.  相似文献

The ability of pigeons to use event durations as remember (R) and forget (F) cues for temporal samples was examined. Pigeons were required to indicate whether a houselight sample stimulus was short (2 sec) or long (6 sec) by pecking a red or a green comparison stimulus. After training with a constant 10-sec delay interval, temporal cues (illumination of the center key) were presented 2 sec after the offset of the temporal samples. For one group, a short (2-sec) temporal cue served as the R cue and a long (6-3ec) temporal cue served as the F cue. This was reversed for a second group of birds. During training, comparison stimuli were always presented following the temporal R cue, but never following the temporal F cue. Tests for the effectiveness of the temporal R and F cues showed that F cues were equally effective in reducing matching accuracy in both groups of birds. It was concluded that pigeons used the duration of the cue to determine whether or not to rehearse the memory code for the temporal sample.  相似文献
