Har Gobind Khorana pioneered study of transmembrane proteins at highest resolution possible through the application of biochemical techniques. His research on bacteriorhodopsin, a retinal based light driven proton pump from Halobacterium halobium spanned a range of ground breaking studies from membrane reconstitution, complete denaturation and refolding of a polytopic membrane protein, gene synthesis combined with genetically-directed protein modification and protein dynamic/kinetic analysis. His courage for tackling tough biochemical problems through enormous enthusiasm, building of a multi disciplinary team and maintain focus is a lesson for generations to come.  相似文献

Lower teaching evaluations can affect students’ willingness to recommend an online course. To maintain online course quality, it is important to keep the “integrity” of a course, that is, offer to the extent possible, the same content and learning outcomes in an online course as the face‐to‐face (F2F) equivalent. This study explored the impact of background, technological, and course‐related variables on perceived favorability of online (versus F2F) courses and willingness to recommend courses using two independent “mixed course format” samples of business undergraduates, that is, simultaneously taking online/hybrid and F2F courses. Participants were recruited based on their enrollment in at least one online or hybrid course. A complete data sample of 259 students filled out an online survey in the Fall 2015 semester, followed by a second independent sample of 269 students in the Spring 2016 semester. Hierarchical regression results showed that after controlling for background variables, one course‐related variable (instructor effectiveness) and one technological‐related (perceived ease of use) consistently explained perceived favorability of online (versus F2F) courses across both samples. For the willingness to recommend courses, after controlling for background variables, both course‐related variables (instructor effectiveness and student motivation) and the perceived favorability of the online course were each significant across both samples.  相似文献

The plasma fractionation is a technology to separate therapeutic plasma proteins. The fractionation is carried out either by solvent precipitation (ethanol) or recently by chromatography. During the process of chromatography lipids were found in waste fraction. A new lipid rich lyophilised quality control (Q.C.) sera was prepared inexpensively using this waste plasma fraction. This is probably the first attempt to prepare the Q.C. sera by large scale chromatographic method in India.  相似文献

Free radicals play an important role in the pathogenesis of tissue damage in many clinical disorders, including atherosclerosis. Antioxidants protect the body from damage caused by free radicals. In this study we investigated oxidative stress, antioxidants and inflammatory molecules in patients with acute myocardial infarction. This study has been carried out on 106 patients with acute myocardial infarction, (89 men and 17 females). The control group consisted of 50 healthy, age-matched subjects (40 men and 10 females). Levels of Glucose, lipid profile, glutathione reduced, glutathione peroxidase, Superoxide dismutase, Glycosylated hemoglobin, fibrinogen, vitamin C, vitamin E, malondialdehyde, ceruloplasmin, adenosine deaminase, lysozyme and sialic acid were measured. Malondialdehyde and ceruloplasmin levels were significantly high and antioxidants such as vitamin C, vitamin E, glutathione reduced, glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase were significantly decreased in diabetic and non-diabetic AMI patients as compared with control (p<0.001). Inflammatory markers showed significant rise in diabetic patients as compared with controls. Our results clearly show increased inflammation and oxidative stress in patients with acute myocardial infarction. Depression of antioxidant system in these patients confirms this conclusion.  相似文献
