The geography of school choice critically shapes families’ educational opportunities. Residential segregation, social inequalities and the educational marketplace interact in complex ways and produce spatialised educational opportunities for families. This paper analyses the link between these dimensions and how they structure families’ educational opportunities in the city of Madrid. Based on several administrative datasets that capture students’ residential location, their socio-economic position, the schools they attend and the characteristics of school supply, our analysis reveals the uneven spatial distribution of the different school modalities in Madrid, where advantaged families and neighbourhoods have more diversified and socio-economically homogenous nearby schooling options. The results also depict the way the city is spatially divided along a continuum of ‘privileged’ residential and educational assets. The paper reflects on how reforms expanding school choice and diversification of the educational market undertaken by the regional government may have increased the link between residential and school segregation.  相似文献

One of the most usual flaws that lead to literacy disability regards cognitive difficulties and alterations some children present in the literacy process. Many studies have found alterations in phonological processing, more specifically in phonological working memory (PWM) and phonological awareness (PA). Therefore, our aim was to identify alterations in skills of phonological working memory, phonological awareness and language (semantic, syntactic and phonological aspects) of Brazilian children with literacy disabilities (age 7–8). They were divided into two groups: (1) Group of Normal Literacy (NL); and (2) Group With Literacy Disabilities (LD). The evaluation comprised tests that assessed general cognitive functions and the skills at stake. The LD presented a poorer performance than the NL in the skills of PWM, PA and language aspects. The factor analysis showed that these skills prevailed in differentiating the groups. Thus, children with literacy disabilities presented deficits in phonological processing and language. These deficits seem to be a result of alterations of the phonological representations and poor language skills that are prior to the literacy period. Consequently, we believe that the early identification of these alterations can be very useful for the prevention of future literacy problems.  相似文献

Resumen

La investigación que existe en tomo al desarrollo del conocimiento humano sobre el tiempo muestra que en los primeros años de vida los niños adquieren información importante sobre la temporalidad que les posibilita una adaptación adecuada a su ambiente y el desarrollo de conductas afectivas, perceptivas, cognitivas, lingüísticas y sociales fundamentales. Además, muestra que cuando se consigue el dominio de las herramientas cognitivas y lingüísticas en torno a los 6–8 años de edad, no se adquiere un único concepto sobre el tiempo, sino que se conocen diversos aspectos del tiempo difíciles de ser aunados en un concepto único, todos los cuales son necesarios para el funcionamiento adecuado en el mundo de compleja estructura en que nos encontramos. Tras las últimas modificaciones ocurridas en la adolescencia, sobre todo en lo que se refiere a la perspectiva temporal, el razonamiento sobre el tiempo adquiere las características de la cognición temporal adulta.  相似文献

This paper presents an initiative by the Brazilian Metalworkers Union, the Centro Nacional de Metalurgicos, which seeks to integrate vocational training with the construction of a new citizenship that represents a radical departure from the corporatist legacy of 'regulated citizenship'. The programme incorporates a strategic vision of the construction of citizenship of the workers through intervention in the development of public policy, principally in relation to policies concerning the creation of work, wealth and education, and in the unions' role in their negotiation. The Programa Integrar transcends the traditional Latin American adult education paradigms of human resource training and popular education, and it is argued that it is an example of an integrated education and training for civil society.  相似文献

Docosahexaenoic (DHA) and arachidonic acids (AA) are polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), major components of brain tissue and neural systems, and the precursors of a number of biologically active metabolites with functions in inflammation resolution, neuroprotection and other actions. As PUFAs are highly susceptible to peroxidation, we hypothesised whether cigarette smokers would present altered PUFAs levels in plasma and erythrocyte phospholipids. Adult males from Indian, Sri-Lankan or Bangladeshi genetic backgrounds who reported smoking between 20 and 60 cigarettes per week were recruited. The control group consisted of matched non-smokers. A blood sample was taken, plasma and erythrocyte total lipids were extracted, phospholipids were separated by thin layer chromatography, and the fatty acid content analysed by gas chromatography. In smokers, dihomo-gamma-linolenic acid, the AA precursor, was significantly reduced in plasma and erythrocyte phosphatidylcholine. AA and DHA were significantly reduced in erythrocyte sphingomyelin. Relatively short term smoking has affected the fatty acid composition of plasma and erythrocyte phospholipids with functions in neural tissue composition, cell signalling, cell growth, intracellular trafficking, neuroprotection and inflammation, in a relatively young population. As lipid peroxidation is pivotal in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer disease, early effects of smoking may be relevant for the development of such conditions.  相似文献
