The perception of environmental problems by young people is of great importance for two reasons: first, in the near future they will have a great influence on the running of business and, second, knowing what they think about environmental issues will help to establish better pro‐environmental education among them. Therefore, studies on the perception of environmental problems among Polish students were undertaken. We intended to characterise and compare the perception of environmental problems by young people from different universities. These were the Environmental Faculty of the University of Maria Curie Sklodowska in Lublin and the Technical Faculty of the Technical University of Lublin. The results of our research showed that students from both schools are aware of environmental problems, but the more pro‐ecological group was students studying protection of the environment.  相似文献

This study reports on the use of a microsystem for evaluation of photodynamic therapy (PDT) procedures on the "mixed" (carcinoma-normal) cultures. Balb/3T3 (normal mouse embryo) and A549 (human lung carcinoma) cells were tested in separated and "mixed" cultures. Interactions and migration of cells cultured together were observed. The PDT procedures were examined in the hybrid (PDMS/glass) microsystem which contains cell culture microchambers integrated with network of microchannels. We investigated that the number of dead cells after PDT procedures is dependent on the kind of cell culture. Moreover, the influence of the carcinoma cells on the viability of normal cells in the "mixed" culture was observed.  相似文献

Purpose:To investigate whether blood flow restriction(BFR) without concomitant exercise mitigated strength reduction and atrophy of thigh muscles in subjects under immobilization for lower limbs.Methods:The following databases were searched:PubMed,CINAHL,PEDro,Web of Science,Central,and Scopus.Results:The search identified 3 eligible studies,and the total sample in the identified studies consisted of 38 participants.Isokinetic and isometric torque of the knee flexors and extensors was examined in 2 studies.Cross-sectional area of thigh muscles was evaluated in 1 study,and thigh girth was measured in 2 studies.The BFR protocol was 5 sets of 5 min of occlusion and 3 min of free flow,twice daily for approximately 2 weeks.As a whole,the included studies indicate that BFR without exercise is able to minimize strength reduction and muscular atrophy after immobilization.It is crucial to emphasize,however,that the included studies showed a high risk of bias,especially regarding allocation concealment,blinding of outcome assessment,intention-to-treat analyses,and group similarity at baseline.Conclusion:Although potentially useful,the high risk of bias presented by original stodies limits the indication of BFR without concomitant exercise as an effective countermeasure against strength reduction and atrophy mediated by immobilization.  相似文献

Diversity has been an important topic of research for some time in higher education, though the purposes underlying this attention have varied across national and regional contexts. In many parts of the world, the term diversity has been emphasized with regard to variety among the programs or services provided by academic institutions, and differences among the types of institutions themselves. It is particularly important to discuss whether different dimensions of diversity may influence the degree of effectiveness of higher education (HE) in fulfilling its contribution and relevance to economic and social development. We are particularly interested in analyzing whether unitary or binary systems present significant differences in different dimensions of diversity that may be relevant to enhance higher education institutions’ (HEIs) contribution to territorial cohesion, notably by enhancing the local stock of human capital and contributing to the social and cultural development of their regions. Therefore, we propose the following research questions: *Are there relevant patterns regarding different dimensions of diversity between unitary and binary HE systems? *In the case of binary systems, is it possible to find relevant differences in different dimensions of diversity between universities and more vocational HEIs? By looking at these questions, we aim at contributing both to the literature on HE institutional diversity and to the study of the role played by HEIs on regional development.  相似文献

This article presents the pseudo-equivalent group approach and discusses how it can enhance the quality of linking in the presence of nonequivalent groups. The pseudo-equivalent group approach allows to achieve pseudo-equivalence using propensity score reweighting techniques. We use it to perform linking to establish scale concordance between two assessments. The article presents Monte-Carlo simulations and a real data application based on data from the Survey of Adult Skills (PIAAC) and the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). Monte-Carlo simulations suggest that the pseudo-equivalent group design is particularly useful whenever there is a large overlap across the two groups with respect to balancing variables and when the correlation between such variables and ability is medium or high. The example based on PISA and PIAAC data indicates that the approach can provide reasonable accurate linking that can be used for group-level comparisons.  相似文献

Cell migration is an important physiological process, which is involved in cancer metastasis. Therefore, the investigation of cell migration may lead to the development of novel therapeutic approaches. In this study, we have successfully developed a microsystem for culture of two cell types (non-malignant and carcinoma) and for analysis of cell migration dependence on distance between them. Finally, we studied quantitatively the influence of photodynamic therapy (PDT) procedures on the viability of pairs of non-malignant (MRC5 or Balb/3T3) and carcinoma (A549) cells coculture. The proposed geometry of the microsystem allowed for separate introduction of two cell lines and analysis of cells migration dependence on distance between the cells. We found that a length of connecting microchannel has an influence on cell migration and viability of non-malignant cells after PDT procedure. Summarizing, the developed microsystem can constitute a new tool for carrying out experiments, which offers a few functions: cell migration analysis, carcinoma and non-malignant cells coculture, and evaluation of PDT procedure in the various steps of cell migration.  相似文献

We introduce a five-parameter continuous model, called the McDonald inverted beta distribution, to extend the two-parameter inverted beta distribution and provide new four- and three-parameter sub-models. We give a mathematical treatment of the new distribution including expansions for the density function, moments, generating and quantile functions, mean deviations, entropy and reliability. The model parameters are estimated by maximum likelihood and the observed information matrix is derived. An application of the new model to real data shows that it can give consistently a better fit than other important lifetime models.  相似文献

Large-scale international assessments rely on indicators of the resources that students report having in their homes to capture the financial capital of their families. The scaling methodology currently used to develop the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) background indices is designed to maximize within-country comparability over time. However, questions remain on the extent to which alternative scaling methodologies can ensure greater cross-country comparability. Establishing indicators of household resources that are comparable both across countries and over time is fundamental to assessing cross-country differences in socioeconomic inequalities in academic achievement. We use multigroup confirmatory factor analysis for categorical variables to examine the measurement equivalence of the household resource factors across the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development countries that participated in the PISA 2000 and 2012 cycles. We construct a series of alternative measures that use students’ reports on the availability of household resources and compare them to the index of home possessions that is generally used in analyses of PISA data. Our findings show that alternative scaling methodologies can be useful in developing cross-country indicators of socioeconomic status.  相似文献

This paper characterizes and evaluates the student allocation in the Portuguese public higher education system. It describes the supply and demand sides of the system by looking at the numerus clausus across areas of study and institutions, institutions’ degree of diversity, and performance and adjustment indicators based on students’ revealed preferences. Performance indicators quantify the adequacy between demand and supply, across institutions and fields of study, and gauge the performance of public higher education institutions in the competition for candidates. Adjustment indicators allow us to predict the potential impact of changes in higher education regulations on student allocation and its stability. According to these indicators, such changes could result in an expansion for some institutions and fields of study, whereas other institutions might face a reduction.
