This article describes the establishment in fall 2002 of a School of Education Research Center designed to support faculty
in increasing productivity and quality in research. Details are provided about center goals, services, staffing, space, resources,
and logistics during the first year of operation. In addition, data are shared about faculty usage of the Center, the level
of faculty satisfaction with center services in the first year, and initial increases in faculty productivity. The article
concludes with plans for continued data collection to monitor the impact of the Center, a discussion of lessons learned at
this point in the Center's development, and possibilities for the evolution of the Center.

Imperial British India is the point of origin for protagonists in both Frances Hodgson Burnett??s The Secret Garden (1911) and Rudyard Kipling??s The Jungle Books (1894?C1895), two influential children??s stories in which late Victorian notions of childhood education and nature converge with those of national and imperial identity. In Burnett??s The Secret Garden, Mary Lennox, orphaned in colonial India, is restored to health only as she is ??schooled?? in the English countryside. Kipling, meanwhile, finds the imperial setting a fine and fitting place to raise his hero Mowgli. In both cases the young protagonists develop physically, spiritually and socially in classrooms of nature outside or parallel to mainstream culture. This paper follows the different ??escapes?? offered characters in these works, while tracing the contours of class structure, gender, family relations, educational standards and imperial identity as experienced in the last decades of the nineteenth century. 相似文献

We tested three theories (adult attachment, autonomy/relatedness, and gender roles) to understand relationship satisfaction among 150 British and 170 Turkish adults, all involved in romantic relationships. Avoidance, relatedness, autonomy–relatedness, and masculinity mediated the relationship between culture and romantic relationship satisfaction. Additionally, as anticipated, Turkish participants scored lower on relationship satisfaction and autonomy whereas British participants scored lower on avoidance and relatedness. Contrary to expectation, gender role differences (differences between masculinity and femininity) in the United Kingdom were not significantly smaller than in Turkey. This discussion of actual and potential contributions from various discplines to measurement and evaluation, particularly in early childhood education, has crossed several fields of endeavor. Still, it represents only a small, briefly treated subset of all such potential contributions; the interested reader also may wish to examine Goodwin and Driscoll (1980) and Smith (1981a, b). Nonetheless, the diversity and potency of these approaches suggest that a multidisciplinary approach for processes such as measurement and evaluation would be beneficial.
