The responsibility for and the initiative to preserve electronic journal content is neither clear nor easy, and knowing the preservation status of an e-journal is not a basic step within the NASIG Core Competencies for Electronic Resources Librarians life cycle of electronic resources management. Columbia and Cornell University Libraries secured funding for a project to specifically evaluate strategies for expanding e-journal preservation. A wide range of e-journal categories are evaluated within the scope of the project, including: content direct from publishers, small and society publishers, Open Access e-journals, full-text content from third-party content providers, and university generated e-journals. Discussed are techniques for identifying at risk e-journals, integrating preservation into license negotiation with publishers, tracking the preservation status of e-journals, and developing relationships with existing preservation agencies. The quality of future of scholarship and teaching hinges on the preservation of the scholarly record. 相似文献

概述关于网络学术期刊的历来认识并阐述其概念和定义,分析我国学术期刊目前的网络化途径;对比以往对不同系统例如中国科协系统的期刊建立网站的调查资料,给出了笔者课题组最近对全国学术期刊总体的网站建设情况抽样调查结果;分析现有自主性网站的8项功能,给出了网站对于期刊的传播效率和影响力提高有明显促进作用的调查数据。在此基础上,认为网络学术期刊是进化的必然,期刊网站是进化的必由之路,纸质期刊应该尽快创办自己的网络期刊,才能赢得未来。 相似文献

AbstractUsing data from Ithaka S?+?R US Faculty Survey 2015, the current study examined the influence of disciplinary differences and experience levels as well as their interactions on scholars’ attitudes toward print and electronic materials. While results of 3?×?5 factorial ANOVA procedure indicated both disciplinary membership and experience played a role in scholars’ attitudes, effect size indicated disciplinary membership played a more crucial role. After a challenge to librarians by a British journal publisher to consider an alternative “pay only for use” model for journal articles, an extended e-mail conversation took place with the head of collections in one American academic library. That discussion explored issues in the current journal publication system and led to adoption of the model on an experimental basis. In practice, the model shed light on issues, strengths, and weaknesses of alternative and pay-per-view distribution of journal content, as part of an overall collection development strategy. 相似文献

Summary Steve Shadle and Alex Wade, of the University of Washington Libraries, presented an overview of the development and implementation of the Digital Registry of Web Resources, part of the University of Washington Libraries' Web Gateway redesign. The Registry, an SQL database derived from MARC records exported from the Libraries' cataloging system, also provides innovative services for the libraries' users and staff. The presentation was divided into two parts: Steve Shadle discussed the environment in which the decision was made to develop the Digital Registry and design considerations and decisions made during its development; Alex Wade then presented implementation issues and functionalities of the Digital Registry, and discussed future projects. 相似文献

本文对FMJS、PubMed、HighWire、PubMedCentral、BioMedCentral、JSTAGE、ES、SCIELO所提供的网络生物医学学术期刊逐一访问去重后,共得到免费网络生物医学学术期刊806种,然后从免费网络学术期刊被著名数据库PubMed和SCI收摘的角度来探讨免费网络学术期刊的质量,同时从用户利用免费资源的角度对免费网络学术期刊网站(提供商)的质量进行比较评价,结果表明大部分网上免费学术期刊的质量较高,但是各提供商所供免费期刊的质量差别比较大。 相似文献
