AbstractBIBCO is one of four programs in the PCC. This article summarizes the development of BIBCO and how its cataloging training program was strikingly different from the other three programs: NACO, CONSER and SACO. BIBCO grew out of the 1990–1991 recession which created widespread anxiety over the cost of original cataloging. BIBCO attempted to reduce the cost without sacrificing quality and increase record production through the use of core records. The early training emphasized the value of cooperation. PCC’s strength in this area is seen today in its partnerships and leadership in metadata initiatives such as linked data. 相似文献

AbstractThe Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) has formal relationships with the Library of Congress (LC), Share-VDE, and Linked Data for Production Phase 2 (LD4P2) for work on Bibliographic Framework (BIBFRAME), and PCC institutions have been very active in the exploration of MARC to BIBFRAME conversion processes. This article will review the involvement of PCC in the development of BIBFRAME and examine the work of LC, Share-VDE, and LD4P2 on MARC to BIBFRAME conversion. It will conclude with a discussion of areas for further exploration by the PCC leading up to the creation of PCC conversion specifications and PCC BIBFRAME data. 相似文献

RDA是数字环境下资源著录与检索的新标准,其产生是因为《英美编目条例》(第2版)(AACR2)难以适应大量出现的数字文献。与AACR2相比,RDA的主要突破是采用了新的概念模型——书目记录的功能需求和规范数据的功能需求,并且在结构、术语、资源类型、著录原则上作了较大改变。但是新的概念模型是否适用于实际编目工作仍无法确定,有待图书馆同仁探讨。 相似文献

AbstractCanadian participation in the Program for Cooperative Cataloging began in 1998 when Memorial University of Newfoundland joined NACO to counter the lack of locally relevant authority data. Different circumstances operated for each of the early adopters. McGill University joined SACO first, in 1999, and NACO only in 2009. Concordia University joined NACO in 2011. Other libraries joined forces through the Canada Funnel, established in 2005. Since 2015, the number of independent members has grown, and more Canadians have begun participating in the governance and working groups of the PCC. This coincides with increased interest in internationalization within the PCC itself. 相似文献

One function of a call number is to organize the library collection to promote browsability either on the shelf or in an online catalog. This study, based on research done at the Ohio State University Libraries, examines the impact on library collection organization if call numbers are not changed to fit into the shelf list sequence. The browsability of items were tracked by assessing how many screens away titles appear from like items in the online public access catalog, if call numbers by a bibliographic utility were not changed. The study assesses whether not reviewing the call numbers affects patrons’ ability to find the items. 相似文献
