| Abstract: | This paper is to analyze Englinese, a kind of intermittent language in between English and Chinese in the practice of E-C translation. Due to the differences of the two languages, translators tend to be influenced by the original English and have the"imprint"of that language in their translation work, thus creating a kind of third language, which is termed with the coined word"Englinese". The manifestations are summarized as redundancy, mechanical application of English syntax and interpretation of words at face value. By pointing out the existence of this phenomenon and analyzing the causes of it, we are trying to alert the translators of this inappropriate practice and help guarantee the purity of both languages. |
