| Abstract: | Within the framework of pragmatic failures proposed by Thomas （1983）, this paper analyzes the pragmatic failures committed in the English translation of public signs and points out pragma-linguistic equivalence and socio-pragmatic equivalence are two principles that should be abided by in the translation of public signs. |
