| Abstract: | By analyzing Socrates' threefold idol destruction (Greek mythology and religion, natural philosophy, and Movement of Sophists) and threefold denial (material civilization, political civilization and spiritual civilization), the paper proposes a new hypothesis that the death of Socrates may have been his transcendental challenging toward human destiny rather than the tolerance of the Greeks. |
