Egalitarianism and pedagogy

Abstract:

This article describes efforts involving alternative teaching strategies to move the students from passivity to active engagement by encouraging them to take responsibility for their learning. The experiments in conducting a student-centered rather than a teacher-centered class attempt to create an egalitarian classroom. Students can adopt this way of relating to one another beyond the classroom in criminal justice practice. The results, identified by students' evaluations, display the potential positive effects of such an approach.
