| Abstract: | Contentment in poverty is an important proposition in Confucianism and ran through Chen Xianzhang's poetry and essays on poetry. Chen played a crucial role in the understanding of Confucian contentment in poverty. His thinking on the idea endowed his poetry with special character and had great impact on the new development of and changes to the poetry during the later Ming period. |
