Abstract: | The object of this article is to suggest ways by which the techniques of artificial intelligence can be applied to teaching at the higher education level. In particular, the author outlines the principal components of Intelligent Learner Environment Systems (ILES) which include Intelligent Learner Instruction Systems (ILIS), authoring systems, expert systems, and toolkits including specific hardware, software, and communication facilities. Although development is still not complete, ILES has already surpassed the traditional scope of Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) and Intelligent Computer Assisted Instruction (ICAI). |
