Technology and Teaching in Academia
Abstract:Teaching is central to both the definition and the activity of colleges and universities. The mission of the college or university library is integral to supporting teaching. Library technologies, especially the evolving technologies of electronic databases and networking, must be viewed in this broader context. Curricula and teaching requirements should drive the acquisition of new technologies; the technologies in and of themselves do not solve problems or promote better or more efficient instruction. The purchase and retention of library technologies will require the participation of faculty and librarians in the arduous task of integrating library use and classroom instruction. Cooperation and involvement on both sides will benefit our students.
