| Abstract: | Daniel Coil Gilman was an educational thinker and practitioner in the reform of higher education in the United States in the late 1800s. During the period,he was playing an important role in promoting the transition from a college system to an university one. Based on his own belief and experience he declared his perspectives and views of the development of American universities,such as the creating American type of university;introducing research into universities; shaping of American graduate education. |
