| Abstract: | As a part of literary translation, the translation of the speeches of literary characters has char-acteristics of its own. This is because the speeches of the characters belong basically to spoken language,consequently quite different from written language. In order to translate such speeches well, the translatedversion should reveal the idiomatic characteristics of the speeches of the characters. The translated versionshould suit the personality of the particular character as well as the particular environment. Also thetranslated version should be smooth and natural. |
