| 摘 要： | 德莱塞的《嘉莉妹妹》是一部以欲望为主题的小说。从世纪之交的美国社会现实入手，分析嘉莉妹妹无尽欲望背后的社会驱动力，指出，嘉莉的欲望具有很大的普遍性，它是绝大多数美国人的欲望。她的道德后果是美国日益悬殊的贫富差距造成的。她所走的典型道路也是美国社会为她亲手铺就的。

| Abstract: | Theodore Dreiser's Sister Carrie is a novel with desire as the theme.From the starting point of the American social situation during the century turning point,the article analyzes the social drive behind Sister Carrie's endless desire,point out that Sister Carrie's desire is general which represents the dream of most American people.Her moral result is produced by the increasing distance between the poor and the rich in America and her typical road is paved by American society. |
