Abstract: | Optical data storage advances and compact disc market acceptance have led to the development of a new mass storage medium,
CD-ROM (Compact Disc—Read Only Memory). This article provides a brief overview of the technology; lists the production processes
associated with it; outlines its advantages and disadvantages; and provides current costs and storage equivalents. The article
continues with an analysis of specific benefits and practical limitations of CD-ROM technology in documentation.
