| Abstract: | The May-Fourth Movement witnessed a drastic clash between Chinese and Western cultures. Hu Shi and Liang Suming each held a sharply contrasted attitude to the two cultures, but they both contributed to the idea of individual emancipation as the core of the coming new culture. |
