| 摘 要： | 在《埃尔默.甘特利》之宗教社会的叙事中,隐含作者显示了民众对真理和爱的渴求,也显示了对一些纯洁和诚实牧师的肯定和同情。长期以来,西方学界主要聚焦于该小说中对美国宗教文化的犀利批判这一伦理层面,对于该小说中辛克莱.刘易斯对美国文化精神肯定一面的探索,无疑有助于更全面深刻地了解刘易斯这位文化反叛者的叙事伦理态度,也有助于从刘易斯小说中更全面地了解美国的民族文化精神特质。

| Abstract: | In the religious narrative of Sinclair Lewis's Elmer Gantry,the implied author both shows his affirmation and sympathy for some holy and honest priests,and demonstrates the aspects which common people are eager for truth and love.Western academic circles mainly focus on the negative ethical dimension of criticizing American religious culture in Elmer Gantry for a long time.The present study investigates into the positive and admirable points to American cultural spirits in Lewis's fiction from the perspective of narrative ethics.This approach helps us understand more thoroughtly the attitude of the Lewis's narrative ethics and the cultural spirit of America's nation in his novel. |
