| Abstract: | Haiyan, a county located on the northern bank of Hangzhou Bay and half way be tween Hangzhou and Shanghai, is more than 1,000 years old. The county government has launched a series of cultural undertakings that are transforming everyday life. In recent years, Haiyan has had many entertainment and recreation venues opened up for the public. Haiyan Museum has been offering tYee exhibitions since September 2012. Since then, 14 exhibitions have been held and received over 200,000 visitors. Some exhibitions are staged by local collec tors and for artists who arc natives of Haiy an. Zhou Junwei, a local collector of antique and regional furniture, exhibited some pieces of the best furniture in his collection that go back to the Ming （13681644） and the Qing （16441911）. Local citizens can check out books and DVDs from Zhang Yuanji Library. The li brary offers training courses to help elderly people to browse the Internet. It also offers regular lectures on various subjects. Haiyan boasts Splendor Garden, one of the top ten ancient landscaped gardens of China. The garden covers more than an area of 10,000 m2. The garden part has woods, bamboo groves, rockeries and ponds. The ar chitectures feature pavilions, halls, bridges. With the garden as its core, Haiyan has now built a Splendor Garden Cultural Zone, which measures about 15 hectares and pre serves two buildings erected in the last yearsof the Qing Dynasty. |
