| 摘 要： | 在跨化交际中，委婉语具有重要的社会功能，一方面，它可以维持语言禁忌的施使和效能；另一方面，它可以用来保持良好的人际关系，以促进言语交际的正常运行。本对英语委婉语在社会生活和社会事务、教育、政治、军事和国际关系、商业广告以及人体生理现象等方面所涉及的对策和范围做了一些探讨，并就某些英语委婉语与汉语进行了一些比较。

| Abstract: | In intercultural communication, euphemism has important functions in society. For one thing, it can maintain the application and efficacy of language taboo; for another, it can also be used to keep good personal relations to improve the carry out of communication. This article explores English euphemism, dealing with objectives and categories in human physiological phenomena, social life and affair, education, politics, military, international relations, and advertisements. In the end, it compares some English euphemisms with Chinese. |
