Abstract:The semantic role of subject in passive sentences is very rich. Any of the object, the dative, the result and so on, of the action, can function as the subject in passive sentences. Sometimes the subject is not the argument for the verb or there is no subject at all. That the object of the action function as subject in passie sentences is typical while the others are non-typical. The subject in passive sentences can be directly or indirectly affected, or even may not be affected by the predicate verb. The passive sentences with Chinese Characer "被" can imply weak influence, but the passive sentences with Chinese Characer "叫", "让", "给" respectively have to imply strong influence.
Keywords:passive sentences  subject  semantic role  influentialness
