| Abstract: | This paper reports how modal verbs as hedges are used in English theses for M. A degree by creating two corpora, i.e. , the Corpus of Chinese English Learners （ CCEL）, and the Corpus of Native English Speakers （ CNES）, on the basis of which both the similarities and differences are compared, thus some pedagogical implications are put forward. |
