Abstract:This paper, using discourse analysis method, explores the main factors that affect the process of negotiation for meaning in T- and - S interaction in an American teacher's English speaking class. The main factors are listed as follows: unequal T-and-S relationships, unequal T-and-S linguistic proficiency, cultural differences between the American teacher and Chinese students and students' low motivation.
