| 摘 要： | 美国早期的西部开发颇为成功，中国的西部开发则刚刚起步。中美两国西部开发所面临的国际环境、国内环境和自然环境均大为不同。美国西部开发之初，国际市场是一片待开发的荒漠，美国获得了较为有利的国际经济环境，当前中国西北开发所处的是被构建了的时空；美国在开发西部过程中，已跻身于先进国家之列，而今天的中国仍是世界上最大的发展中国家；美国西部地区的气候、地理环境及漫长的海岸线等优越条件，我国西北地区也不具备。中国的西北开发应走出一条新路。
