| 摘 要： | 成长问题是一个特殊的文学主题,在美国文学史上占有相当重要的地位,也有着悠久的创作传统。19世纪中叶以来,一些作家如霍桑、迈尔维尔以及奥尔科特等通过不同文学形式从不同角度反应年轻人的成长历程。美国独立战争之后到美国内战之前这段时间是美国文学民族身份确立的时期,也是美国成长小说源起的阶段。本文以这期间美国作家创作的《红字》、《白鲸》以及《小妇人》这三部有代表性的成长小说中解读1860年之前美国成长小说的特征以及成因。

| Abstract: | Growth problem, as a special topic in literature, has been an essential part in America literature with a long history. Since 1850s, writers as Hawthorne, Mayer and Alcott have created various literary works about the growth of youth. American Bildungsroman originates from the period between American Independence War and American Civil War （before 1860）, along with the establishment of literature identity of American nation. This pa- per reports a study on the feature of American Bildungsroman before 1860 and its causes via three representatives in American Bildungsroman： The Scarlet Letter, White Whale and Little Woman. |
