| Abstract: | "On the Relationship between Novels and the control of the masses" is a significant article written by Liang Qi-Chao after the failure of the reform movement of 1898 in order to advocate a revolution in novel writing.From the angle of receptive psychology of literary appreciation,the author presents an intensive study of the features of rules governing the social role performed by novels.His"four-force" theory concerning the novel,the"force to edify" and the "force to promote" in particular,still attracts the attention and interest of the academic circles even to this day,deserving our earnest study. |
