| Abstract: | In previous studies, it is argued that there is a difference of subjectivity betweenfiran and youyu in Chinese and this subjectivity is claimed to be the factor that results in the syntactic difference between the two words. However, this research of the diachronic lexical semantics and grammaticalization of these two words provides a more straightforward explanation of the syntactic differenee. |
