Abstract: | Aforeigner in China" - it felt a little odd yet true when a friend of mine asked me whether or not I could write an article of my experience in China under that topic head Ing for a magazine. Why the feeling of oddness? The reason is that I am of Chinese background and my native tongue is Cantonese but I didn't visit to China until the age of 20. My background Is even more unusual. My parents were born inVietnam and myself in Israel.I came 1:o Australia when I was 8 years old and therefore do not exactly hold ~trong Chinese or Western culture or beliefs. At the same time they are both familiar and unfamiliar to me, if that seems posslble.Theretore my experience in China during five months of studying, almost three years ago now, has left a lasting impression full of both happy and sad moments. |
