美国新闻期刊对中国文化专有项翻译策略初探

摘    要:文章从"文化专有项"的定义和特点出发,结合中西方关于文化翻译的理论研究,运用韦努蒂的归化与异化理论,研究了美国新闻期刊翻译中国文化专有项所采用的翻译方法,提出异化是翻译文化专有项的主要策略。读者群、新闻目的和意识形态这三大因素造成了美国新闻期刊采用"异化"策略来处理中国文化专有项。

Abstract:The paper starts with the definition of culture - specific items and the related research on it. Based on the domesticating and foreignizing translation theory put forward by Venuti, with analysis of coverage in Newsweek and Time, the paper argues that foreignization is preferred and adopted to translate Chinese culture - specific items. Underlying factors including readership, news value, and ideology, which lead to the employed translation strategies, are also examined.
