| 摘 要： | 委婉语是英、汉语中共同的语言现象，它的产生基于共同的心理—避讳心理、求雅心理、补偿心理、礼貌心理和掩饰心理，但英汉委婉语反映了各自不同的社会文化背景，本文探讨了英汉委婉语发展历史和产生的心理基础；并着重从语义和语音两个方面探讨了英语委婉语的构造方式及英汉委婉语在社会生活中的应用。

| Abstract: | As based on the same psychology --taboos, gracefulness, compensation, politeness, and so forth, euphemism is a common linguistic phenomenon in both English and Chinese languages. However, it represents different cultural backgrounds respectively. The present paper first gives an analysis of the history of the euphemism and its psychological foundation on which it is produced. Then the article argues its essential features and structures in terms of semantics and phonetics. Finally its practical application in social life is presented in the paper. |
