| Abstract: | The purpose of this paper is to explore the use of control charts as a diagnostic tool for monitoring the performance of students. The focus is their use as an unbiased instrument in the early identification of students who will perform significantly poorly for the duration of the course. The introduction of control charts is seen to have many desirable consequences not only in the formulation of an assessment and monitoring policy, but linked with the concept of quality loss they can prove to be a valuable starting point for a quality improvement system. |
