| Abstract: | F. Scott Fitzgerald has become something of a defining figure of the twenties of the 20th century-the decade he so famously described as the Jazz Age. Regarded as the most searching and tightly written of his novels, The Great Gatsby is the work that assured Fitzgerald＇s place among the major writers of the twentieth century. In the novel, the writer created the hero Gatsby. Gatsby loves Daisy so much that he can not see what she really is. So in the end he is killed by her indirectly. His American dream is too long, too deep that even when he is killed he doesn＇t realize what happens to him and why Daisy, the only woman he loves the most does this to him. |
