地方士绅和晚清民国时期农村教育的发展

摘    要:国家权力的下沉构成了晚清民国时期中国农村教育发展的重要背景,在有限的国家能力的制约下,地方社会的支持和介入对于农村教育的发展尤为重要,传统的地方士绅群体在这一过程中扮演着关键性的角色.一方面国家以地方士绅及相关的机构为中介连接起国家和地方社会,双方在相互合作中推进农村教育的发展.另一方面伴随着“双轨政治”的僵化,官、绅、民之间关系的异化导致了农村教育发展过程中的种种冲突,并极大地制约了这一时期农村教育的顺利发展.

Local Gentry and the Development of Rural Education during the Period of Late Qing and Republican China

Abstract:Although the devolution of state power constituted the background of rural education development during the period of Late Qing and Republican China, the limited state capacity made the involvement and support of local society an integral part of its development. The local gentry played a vital role in this process. The state took local gentry and relevant institutions as the mediator between the state and local society, and their cooperation promoted the development of rural education. However, the ossification of the "dual track politics" changed the relationships among the government, the gentry and the populace and brought about various conflicts in the development of rural education. As a result, the development of rural education was largely constrained.
