| Abstract: | The development of contemporary sports meets held in Macao are closely linked with Macao's politics,economy,and society.After Macao's return to China,sports meets there have been developing rapidly.The development of contemporary sports meets held in Macao heve experienced three stages: the initial stage,the common stage,and the rapid stage.Basic features of these sports meets can be summed up as follows: strong colonial features of the pre-return period;mutual fusion of east and west sports culture;amateur characteristics;support from a wide range of people;regular sports rules;combinations of international competitions and travel activities.With Macao's return to China and being sponsor of the 2005 East Asia Games,the 2006 Portuguese Country Olympic Games,the Second Asia Indoors Sports Meet,the contemporary sports level in Macao has been and will be greatly improved. |
