Abstract: | This article is con-lposed of four sections. In the first section, the history and ethnic composition of the Yette Su..lunghar, and Tarim Basins from the mid--seventh to the mid--eighth centuries, before the dissolution of the (Yrkhun Uyghur Khanate based in the Mongolian Valley, will be discussed on the basis of written documents. In the second secttion, the problem of the so--called "Westward Migration of the Uyghurs" will be discussed; the statement that "Some of the Uyghurs moved Westward, toward the Qarluqs," as written in historical materials, and the reality that it was in fact a movement to places in the Yette Su Valley, Junghar Valley, and Tarim Valley which were alrevdy under the control of the Orkhun Uyghur Khanate and in which their own kin had lived since ancient times, will be discussed on the basis of historical documents. In the third section, the process of the Uyghurs led by I^3 an Tekin (Prince with a mole) passing through the Altay Mountains, sweeping from BOshbaliq to the South, first entering the Kucha region, then Qara Sheher, and then founding the Western Uyghur Khanate, and related problems will be diseussed. In the fourth section, the relation between Pan Tckin and Bukii Tekin, the relationship between the Western Uyghur Khanate and Zhang Yichao, the Tang Dynasty's official in the Heshi Valley, the destruction of the Western Uyghur Khanate by Bukachin (Buku Tekin) and wtrious other problems will be discussed. |
