| 摘 要： | 英语中委婉语的使用非常普遍，因为委婉语是用含蓄，幽默，曲折的方式来表达一些令人尴尬、不快或恐惧的事物，使之听起来更加文雅和礼貌。本文对委婉语在不同语境中的语用功能进行了分析，提出委婉语是日常交际中的一种必不可少的礼貌语言，符合语用学中的合作原则和礼貌原则以及面子论，应认真学习并加以掌握。

| Abstract: | Euphemisms are commonly used in English as euphemisms are the more implicit and polite ways to express some embarrassing and annoying things so that they sound more elegant and polite. This essay analyzes the pragmatic functions of euphemisms in different linguistic contexts by applying Gfice＇s Cooperative Principle, Leech＇ s Politeness Principle and also Brown and Levinson＇s Face Theory and arrive at the conclusion that euphemims fit into the Cooperative Principles, the Politeness Principles and the Face Theory in pragmatics. It is very important to master this special kind of polite language in language learning and communication. |
