| 摘 要： | 作为用来发表意见的新闻次语类,英语社论大量使用各种情态表达来实现其评析新闻事件及预测事态走向的功能。其中情态动词主要用来表达预测及可能性,以实现社论语类的评论及展望功能;而情态附加语常被用来增强言论的可信性,以实现社论的劝说功能。中低量值情态表达的高频使用,可避免把观点强加给读者,增强协商性,启发读者思考。此外,英语社论发表观点时主要采用隐性主观的情态取向,在表达意见时可保护媒体立场不被批评。
