| 摘 要： | 服务于显赫的达林顿府的史蒂文斯完全栖息在自己扮演的"杰出的男管家"的角色中。他过分发达的人格面具使他与自己的天性相疏远,错失了情感生活这道人生风景。一次出行使他意识到了身份认同危机和失衡的内心。小说中达林顿府、管家配膳室、原野、村舍、光影、自然(达府户外)等空间意象隐喻并揭示了史蒂文斯的身份建构与无法克服的情感焦虑。

| Abstract: | Stevens,as the butler of Darlington Hall,identifies himself as "the great butler of England".His hearty devotion to that persona costs him dear-he gets alienated from his nature,misses the best views in his emotional life and loses the balance of his mind in the end.He does not realize his identity crisis until he is on a journey to visit an old admirer he rejected twenty years ago.The metaphorical meaning of some spatial images in the novel reveals Stevens’ insoluble anxiety over his identification. |
