| Abstract: | This paper reviews relevant literature about general education, and introduces those theories that inform US general education practice. Four aspects are examined including the nature of general education, the rationale for general education, the content of general education and the relationship between general education and professional education. The purpose is to promote full, accurate, and in-depth understanding of general education and provide a theoretical basis for colleges and universities that offer general education. |
