| Abstract: | This paper aims to contrast rhetorical usage in oral English with that in oral Chinese. It dwells on metaphor and euphemism in oral expressions. It suggests that rhetorical devices and functions are different in two languages due to the different social traditions, cultural backgrounds and language habits. |
