| 摘 要： | 作为美国浪漫主义文学的杰出代表,霍桑以其深刻的思想内涵和独特的叙事技巧在美国及世界文坛享有盛誉,特别是他独特的浪漫主义创作技巧对同时代及后世影响深远。《红字》是霍桑的代表作品,也是浪漫主义创作手法的完美诠释。本文从《红字》的小说主题、人物刻画及艺术手法三个方面探讨霍桑的浪漫主义艺术特征,从而去体会一位勇于冲破宗教藩篱、追求灵魂自由、崇尚知识、回归自然、争取人生平等与幸福权利的伟大作家的浪漫主义情怀。

| Abstract: | As an outstanding representative of American romanticism, Hawthorne enjoys great popularity with his profound thought and unique narrative techniques in the literary world both in America and the rest of the world. He is extraordinary in his romantic writing style which shed great influence on his peers and the writers of the later generations. The Scarlet Letter is Hawthorne＇s masterpiece in which his romantic creation in on full display. The paper explores Hawthorne＇s romantic artistic characteristics in the following three aspects, namely, the theme of the novel, the portrayal of the main characters and the means of artistic creation, thus to perceive Hawthorne＇s romantic feelings as one who can courageously break the shackles of religion to pursue freedom of the soul, advocate knowledge and uphold returning to nature, and the one who can fight for people＇s rights of equality and happiness. |
