| 摘 要： | 梅尔维尔发表于19世纪50年代的短篇作品十分讲求叙事的艺术性。以《广场故事集》的标题故事为例,该故事的表层文本表现的是叙述人理想与现实之间的反差导致的失望情绪。但分析显示,故事的叙述速度渲染了叙述人在仙境之旅之前、途中和之后的心境变化过程;典故和意象等心理指涉的不断重复揭示了叙述人接近事实真相时失望情绪的不断强化;语言的节奏变化作为达到情感形式的有效媒介参与了意义的生产过程,与叙述速度和意象重复一起,建构了故事的潜文本意义:艺术创作和审美活动不可缺少适当的心理距离。

| Abstract: | The series of short fictions and stories published by Herman Melville in 1850＇ s are highly artistic in narratology. Take the title story of the Piazza Tales as an example, the surface text suggests the narrator＇ s disap- pointment about the discrepancy between ideal and reality. Yet the analysis reveals that, the subtext is constructed to reveal the necessity of psychological distance in artistic and aesthetic creation by employment of various speed of narration which highlights the changing process of the narrator＇ s mood before, during and after the travel to the so called fairyland, step the narrator＇ repetition of psychological denotation of various imageries and allusions which enhances step by s disappointment, as well as linguistic rhythm. |
