| Abstract: | This thesis reviews empirical studies on the develop- ment of concept of word since 1970s. Beginning with the defi- nition of the concept of,thls review illustrates the three factors affecting potential the development of the concept of word. Fi- nally, the conclusions derived from those researches are as fol- lows： 1 ） literacy plays a leading role in the development of concept of word; 2） bilingualism has a positive effect on the development of concept of word; 3） the development of con- cept of word varies in different writing system. |
